The project “Pflanzenwerkstatt” aims – according to a paradigm shift in the production and handling of food – together with pupils to find and expire a modern and urban approach for crop production. The focus is on hydroponics, where the students – supported by scientists – can elaborate the principles of these technologies. Hydroponics is a indoor cultivation method commonly used in plant factories, where plants are grown without soil. Compared with soil cultivation, hydroponics has the advantages of conservation of water and nutrients, as well as more complete control of the environmental factors affecting plant growth such as light, temperature, carbon dioxide, and nutrient solution.
