How, what and why?

The Practical Robotics Institute Austria (PRIA) is a non-profit association with the aim to promote scientific and technical excellence in schools using robotics and ICT as well as the participation and operation of exemplary research projects in related fields of robotics, ICT and teaching methods. The Practical Robotics Institute Austria is constituted as an independent non-profit organization with a scientific advisory board.

Our Vision

Our vision is to prepare and motivate next generations of researchers, engineers, and scientists and to be the first address in educational robotics and ICT in Europe.

Our Activities

In Education

  • Increase the interest of children and adolescents in science, technology and innovation
  • Reduce skepticism towards technology
  • Involve pupils and students into complex projects and problem solving processes
  • Development of new teaching methods, which stimulate learning and experimenting as well as realizing one’s own ideas
  • Encouragement of entrepreneurial thinking

In Research

  • Innovative control architectures for robotics and industrial automation
  • Knowledge-based systems and agent technology for the automation of flexible industrial processes
  • Augmented Reality to make visualization of industrial processes more efficient and easier to understand
  • Product and prototype development in the fields of electronics and ICT

Our Impact

PRIA reached more than 1050 children and adolescents in 2015:

  • 35% were girls
  • 33% had migration background
  • 80% were able to participate without costs due to funded projects

More than 400 parents were also reached as they represent an important part of the decisions regarding education and career of the children and adolescents.
