How, what and why?

The Practical Robotics Institute Austria (PRIA) aims to promote scientific and technical excellence in schools using robotics as well as ICT and conducts application-related research in the fields of robotics, automation and ICT.

Our Vision

Our vision is to prepare and motivate next generations of researchers, engineers, and scientists as well as to advance science and innovations in the fields of robotics, automation and ICT.

Our Activities

In Education

  • Increase the interest of children and adolescents in science, technology and innovation
  • Reduce skepticism towards technology
  • Involve pupils and students into complex projects and problem solving processes
  • Development of new teaching methods, which stimulate learning and experimenting as well as realizing one’s own ideas
  • Encouragement of entrepreneurial thinking

In Research

  • Innovative control architectures for robotics and industrial automation
  • Knowledge-based systems and agent technology for the automation of flexible industrial processes
  • Augmented Reality to make visualization of industrial processes more efficient and easier to understand
  • Product and prototype development in the fields of electronics and ICT

Our Impact

PRIA reached more than 5500 children and adolescents in 2018:

  • 45% were girls
  • 30% had migration background
  • 95% were able to participate without costs due to funded projects

More than 2000 parents were also reached as they represent an important part of the decisions regarding education and career of the children and adolescents.

PRIA reached more than 2500 children and adolescents in 2017:

  • 40% were girls
  • 30% had migration background
  • 90% were able to participate without costs due to funded projects

More than 1000 parents were also reached as they represent an important part of the decisions regarding education and career of the children and adolescents.

PRIA reached more than 2000 children and adolescents in 2016:

  • 30% were girls
  • 25% had migration background
  • 90% were able to participate without costs due to funded projects
